Latest research shows Australian consumer interest in credit cards has returned to pre-pandemic levels, but not for some cards

Australia (July 26, 2022): Finty.com, the famous financial comparison site, has just released its latest credit card keyword research statistics.

Finty is best known for making it easy to compare financial products across banking, crypto, investing, and lending from over 200 partners. Their study of 110 randomly selected high-volume credit card-related search keywords from March 2019 to March 2022 found a strong post-pandemic rebound in credit card searches in Australia. Travel and rewards-related keywords returned to pre-pandemic levels, with significant year-over-year growth.

There were 61% more searches for “credit card qantas points” and 60% more for “Australia’s best credit card” in 2022 compared to 2021. This contrasts with the keyword search volume related to balance transfers and debt consolidation, with almost 50% fewer searches overall compared to 2019.

The full study can be found here Australian Credit Cards (finty.com) Statistics, Facts & Trends (finty.com/au/credit-cards/stats/) and the full analysis is available here: https:// docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11Z5atybkHalqUDQjosyiKJRbkmwpfdIMpYiDMXmLMuY/edit#gid=0.

Commenting on the latest trends, David Boyd, Managing Director of Finty, said: “We believe there are a number of factors contributing to the overall upward trend in credit card related searches. There’s a very definite increase in people looking for travel cards and rewards, but we think there’s also a correlation to the rising cost of living and people are starting to feel the pressure on their finances.
