The Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU) received the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award from CUNA (Credit Union National Association). LLCU was nominated and chosen after donating over $ 130,000 to area nonprofits and providing over 1,100 hours of community service by staff to over 140 different agencies in 2020 .
Several specific initiatives were credited in the decision to award LLCU, such as funding and installing a playground at the Boys & Girls Club at Decatur (totaling $ 46,500); a donation of $ 10,000 for the replacement of the Decatur Junior Football League jersey and equipment after a theft; and a $ 20,000 donation to several pantries in central Illinois at the height of the pandemic.
“LLCU has been fortunate to continue to grow and prosper, despite a tough economy due to the pandemic,” said Robert Ares, president and CEO of LLCU. “For this reason, all of us here at LLCU understand the importance of sharing these blessings with our communities not only through monetary donations, but more importantly, through hands-on volunteer actions that make these agencies work.”
