AKA America’s “un-carrier” T-Mobile is pulling its weight against rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T. In an exclusive partnership, the network will now offer Netflix subscriptions as part of a wireless plan. Called “Netflix On Us,” the deal will offer T-Mobile ONE family plan customers a monthly Netflix subscription at no additional cost. T-Mobile isn’t the first to partner with a streaming service; AT&T offers free HBO as part of its Unlimited Plus data plan (which doesn’t require you to be on a family plan).
So what does “Netflix On Us” really mean? Do all T-Mobile customers now get free Netflix? Is it worth ditching your current wireless service provider and getting into what seems like a flow dream? We have all the information on T-Mobile’s free Netflix offer here.
What is “Netflix On Us” and what does it include?
Essentially, “Netflix On Us” is the name T-Mobile has chosen for a deal that will provide a Netflix subscription to all T-Mobile ONE family plan customers with two or more qualifying lines. This basically means you get the Netflix plan which typically costs $ 9.99 per month for free and the HD streaming that comes with it. If you want to stream in 4k and on more than two devices at once, you can upgrade to the platform’s $ 11.99 plan and the $ 2 difference will be included in your monthly phone bill.
Also note: if you want to stream in high definition on your mobile device, you will need to upgrade your data plan. Like Verizon, T-Mobile enforces a 480p resolution limit on video streaming quality, so if you want that sweet HD, you’ve got to shell out the cash.
So, do all T-Mobile customers get Netflix for free?
Nope. “Netflix On Us” is exclusively available for T-Mobile One family plans. That means the following plans are do not eligible for “Netflix On Us”:
- T-Mobile @Work
- T-Mobile ONE Voice with one line
- T-Mobile ONE 2 lines for $ 100 taxes included
- T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ taxes included
- No credit check
- All plans tax free
- All mobile internet plans (including DIGITS, LineLink and Wearable)
Is it worth upgrading to a T-Mobile ONE family plan for “Netflix On Us”?
While this might all sound very tempting, you might not get much by switching to free Netflix alone if you don’t need more than two lines. As BGR reported, switching from one of the other promotions in the network – like the 2 lines for a $ 100 offer – would only benefit you if you add more lines and sign up for automatic payment. Why? The latest T-Mobile ONE plan for two lines and Netflix would set you back $ 120 / month. Sticking to your original plan and just subscribing to Netflix yourself would only cost you $ 109.99.
However, T-Mobile’s free Netflix offer is well worth it for some customers.
Whether you’re a new customer who needs the extra lines or an existing T-Mobile ONE family plan customer, this whole “Netflix On Us” offering saves you money. You even get T-Mobile’s Family Allowance feature (which allows parents to manage their children’s phone usage) at no additional cost. Like most deals, for the right people, this is a good deal. For the average user, however, it might be best to keep your streaming sitch unchanged.
