HERNDON, Virginia – (BUSINESS WIRE) –NWFCU Foundation, the charitable arm of the Northwest Federal Credit Union, hosted its annual children’s food drive from February 1 to March 31 in partnership with Giant food to collect non-perishable food for the promised children. The Foundation received nearly 42,000 food products and several thousand dollars in donations from generous members of credit unions, employees and corporate partners, including Whitney, Bradley and Brown, Inc. Giant Food customers from 17 local stores generously purchased and donated over 22,000 food items for this important initiative.
“The NWFCU Foundation has the absolute best supporters, members of credit unions and corporate partners,” said Kaycee Childress, CEO of the NWFCU Foundation. “We believe that no child should go hungry. With the help of our partners and supporters, we are helping to change this terrible reality and put much needed food in hungry bellies. We cannot thank enough everyone who donated to this important initiative.
Each year, the Foundation works alongside members of the Northwestern Federal Government, employees and partner companies to collect and deliver food to public school systems in Fairfax County and Loudoun County for distribution to Pledged Students and various after-school programs for promising young people. With many students still at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic and many families still suffering extreme financial hardship during this difficult time, the Foundation stood ready to distribute much-needed supplies to food insecure children.
“We are very grateful for the incredible support the NWFCU Foundation received during the food drive,” said Jeff Bentley, President and CEO of the Northwest Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the NWFCU Foundation. “With an almost 25% increase in donations over last year, we can extend our support to local families who have needed help. We could not have exceeded our goal without our partner, Giant Food, and my local Giant employee, My Pham, who helped make this partnership a reality.
The NWFCU Foundation organizes several fundraisers throughout the year to support its mission of supporting the health, well-being and education of young people. Learn more about their discs and scholarship program.
